Communities in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia are working together to elevate the knowledge and expertise of the building sector around the topics of energy efficiency, moisture management, and durability in new and existing buildings. To that note, the Regional District of East Kootenay is facilitating an initiative called “Building a Legacy”, the first of its kind in British Columbia with a focus on delivering hands-on and interactive workshops, and providing an element of experimental learning to workshops throughout the East Kootenay region.
In the first phase of the “Building a Legacy” initiative, Hamid Design Build (HDB) is collaborating with Community Energy Association to deliver three hands-on, and interactive workshops using a set of mobile wall assemblies, and wall to window interfaces. Designed and built by HDB, these mobile assemblies showcase various methods of improving thermal performance, air tightness, moisture management, and long-term performance of walls, ranging from those that meet the minimum Building Code requirements, to those that offer superior performance beyond the Code. In addition, effective building envelope detailing at window to wall interfaces and wall penetrations will be presented. The workshops also intends to prepare the industry for the policy adoption of BC Energy Step Code.
The workshops will take place on November 15, 2017 in Invermere, on November 16, 2017 in Cranbrook, and on November 17, 2017 on Fernie. “Building a Legacy” project has been made possible through the Building a Legacy initiative, facilitated by the head of the Community Energy Management, Mrs. Megan Lohmann, with funding provided by BC Hydro, FortisBC and the Real Estate Foundation BC.
